World Entrepreneurs' Day observed

Instead of waiting for government jobs, it is time for the educated and talented youth to try to become self-employed and further generate jobs for others, said Manipur University vice chancellor professor N Lokendra.
Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development of the School of Social Sciences, Manipur University under the banner of Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan, Manipur Prant observed the World Entrepreneurs' Day at the conference hall of the department on Monday.
Speaking as the chief guest, Prof Lokendra noted that almost every citizen in the country has their own occupation, spanning over generations.
Having one of the youngest populations in the world, the Indian youth are stepping into the latest technological advantages.
PM Narendra Modi had previously announced the country's tragedy to become the top three economies in the world by 2047 .
Thus, the Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan came into being based on the history and culture of the country, he said.
Urging the youth, who are well-educated to apply their knowledge in becoming self-employed by seeking the help of the government's Startup scheme, the VC said that National Education Policy 2020 also aims to change the thinking of teachers and students with regard to entrepreneurship.
He observed that majority of the people in Manipur are involved in handloom and handicrafts.
Thus, there is a need to understand how to utilise the available resources and become a successful entrepreneur, who would be able to generate jobs far many others.
In his speech, Thangjam Agro Industries Ltd managing director Thangjam Joykumar Singh recounted that Manipur once had low revenue with regard to industries and businesses.
However, the situation is much better now and the state is almost on par with others.
Self-employment opportunities through skill development have increased, thereby helping to improve the economy of the state.
Thus, the youth should not be too picky with regard to jobs and instead utilise their skills to carve out a source of livelihood for themselves and others, he said.
The programme was also attended by Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development head Prof Th Purnima; NIT associate professor Dr Thiyam David; and Manipur Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan Manipur Prant women coordinator and Department of Teacher Education assistant professor Koijam Sobita among others.
