Condemning the abduction of a driver and a handyman by suspected armed cadres of NSCN (K) from near Kohima in Nagaland on July 25 midnight in connection with monetary demand, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union has decided to stop loading of essential items for two trade agencies namely Gupta Cement Agency and Transporter Gun Gun Agency both based in Thangal Bazar from August 6 if the safe release of the abducted driver and handyman were not ensured within August 5 .
Speaking to media persons in this regard on Saturday, M Anil, Secretary Organization of the Union, pointed out that the driver identified as Langoljam Radhamohon (30) s/o L Khelen of Lamding Cherapur, Thoubal district and the handyman Khumanthem Sanjit (22) s/o Binoy of Wangoo Nongyaikhong were coming in the truck bearing registration no MN01-9062 loaded with cement from Guwahati when some armed cadres of NSCN (K) abducted at gun point.
He stated that a ransom amount of Rs 60 lakhs was served to Gupta Cement Agency by the armed outfit as price for release of the abducted duo and informed that a memorandum was submitted to Home Minister Gaikhanagm on July 29 urging him to ensure safe release of them at the earliest but no positive response has been provided so far.
Saying that the abducted driver and handyman are innocent persons who were just performing their normal duties, Anil further informed that Priya, wife of the abducted driver is on fast since her husband was abducted.
