Campaign for Electoral Reforms in India (CERI) has observed the first CERI day today at the Manipur Press Club hall here.
CERI advisor and former minister Moirangthem Nara and advisor of CERI Dr S Sadananda graced the function as the chief guest and president respectively.
The presentation of the research report of CERI Manipur Chapter convenor, Babloo Loitongbam on the working of Sami Parliamentary election system of Norway was the main highlight of the programme.
Babloo observed that the Samian have enjoyed dual voting rights.
The proposal and submission of the same system in India is viewed as separatist movement.
He said the people of Sami have dual voting rights - one as a Norwegian citizen and the other as Sami Parliamentary citizen.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr M Nara said the Campaign for Electoral Reforms in India has been launched to facilitate reform in the electoral system and to ensure that not only elected representatives did not only represent the people.
Prof Gangmumei Kamei pointed out that the electoral system needs reformation as both the state and non-state actors have been used to win the election.
