A joint action committee constituted against the killing of one Y Basanta has urged the Government to pull up the killer and deliver justice without any further delay.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today JAC Against the Brutal filling of Y Basanta secretary Y Nanao said that Y 'Basanta of Mayang Imphal was staying at a labourers' makeshift camp at Awang Wabagai, Imphal West district under Sekmai police station.
It was at this makeshift camp that Basanta was found murdered in the most brutal manner on November 19,Nanao said.
The JAC called on the Chief Minister on November 23 and submitted a memorandum demanding arrest of the killer/s.As the Chief Minister did not give any positive response, a protest demonstration was staged at Mayang Imphal on November 25 .
At the end of the protest demonstration, people of Mayang Imphal decided to impose a 48 hour bandh with effect from this midnight.
In the meantime, representatives of the JAC held another meeting with Chief Minister N Biren together with the Mayang Imphal AC MLA.
The meeting agreed on certain points such as booking and award of befitting punishment to the killer/s and provide a means a livelihood to Basanta's widow and their seven year old child, Nanao said.
Subsequently, the proposed bandh has been withdrawn, However, intense modes of agitation would be launched if the Chief Minister fails to translate into action all the points agreed today, Nanao added.
