Imphal, November 24 2013:
Thousands of government higher secondary school students fear to face their future as teachers continue to cease work with no classes since November 1 .
Higher secondary contract teachers have been performing their work without pay since February this year after their contract expired.
The teachers, about 397 of them in 11 higher secondary schools, who had continued to teach till October 2013 were not paid salaries after their expiry date in February, 2013 .
Taking serious note of the matter, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the concerned department to bring an amicable solution to the situation by negotiating with the contract teachers for the welfare of the students suffering at large.
.AThoithoi, general secretary of the student body, said that the government should bring a common solution to the problem in a short time as the Board and Council examinations are approaching nearer.
If the teachers go on with their strike, then the school syllabus would not be completed as planned and the students would be at loss.
The student body also said that if the government fails to do so, then DESAM would not remain silent but would take up various forms of agitations.
Students' representatives from higher secondary schools like T..GHigher Secondary School, Johnstone Higher Secondary School and C..CHigher Secondary School attended the meeting.
