NSCN-IM which is under a ceasefire pact with the Government of India has been going on the rampage in addition to severely assaulting seven people including five Congress supporters in Chingai AC of Ukhrul district.
Sources informed that Honreiso of Kachai village, Ng Somihor Zimik, Ng Kahormi, AS Yareishang and NK Maiyo, all belonging to Ringwui village under Chingai AC were captured from their respective homes and thrashed blue and black.
The assailants questioned the victims why they were not supporting a candidate of their choice.
All the five victims are said to be supporters of Congress candidate MK Preshow and they are currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Imphal.
The armed militants also assaulted Matuishing and Thanmi of Ringwui who are said to be supporters of an independent candidate.
Moreover, Ringwui village chief Wungmatem was abducted by suspected NSCN-IM cadres on January 29. When the villagers sought the chief's release, the abductors collected signatures on plain paper from the villagers declaring that they would vote for the candidate endorsed by the outfit at the time of re-poll.
Yet, the whereabouts of Wungmatem remained unknown.
In addition to this, armed cadres of NSCN-IM together with representatives of Ukhrul based civil organisations have been going around and threatening villagers of Ringwui, Tora and Tuinem with dire consequences if they do not cast their votes in favour of the candidate announced by the outfit at the time of re-poll, informed the source further.
Meanwhile, INC Congress candidate has appealed to the Chief Election Commissioner to conduct re-poll in 10 polling stations of his constituency.
