157 detained, fined for lockdown violation

Imphal, March 29 2020:
As a part of security measures taken up by Imphal West district police to enforce the total lockdown and prevent any spread of novel coronavirus in Manipur, 157 individuals were arrested for violating the lockdown at different places today.
The SP of Imphal West conveyed that Imphal West district police also registered 25 cases at different police stations of the district.
During the drive today, police also fined Rs 2300 against the violators and a total of 115 vehicles were also detained.
The district police plans to intensify their drive, the SP said, appealing to the general public to extend cooperation to the district administration and the police during the lockdown.
On the other hand, as retail shops are going to open tomorrow, the general public must refrain from bringing their vehicles while coming to purchase any goods from the shops.
Furthermore, people must ensure that only one person per family comes to buy their needed goods.
The public should not resort to panic buying, and the shopkeepers should refrain from selling their items in bulks.
The public must maintain social distance and avoid any unnecessary movement.
Any person who violates the lockdown will be dealt with strictly by taking up necessary legal action, the SP cautioned.
