No more school recognition: Minister

Taking strong exception to the mushrooming of private schools like commercial enterprises, Education Minister DD Thaisii has categorically stated that new private schools would not be given Government recognition any more.
The Minister made the declaration while speaking at the felicitation function of highest mark scorers of Mekola private centre in the HSLC Exam 2011 .
The function held at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hall, Mekola was organised by Examination Committee, Mekola Private Centre.
The recent trend of setting up private schools in every nook and cranny is not an encouraging one, he stated and warned all concerned that they would be mistaken if they are thinking of getting recognition from the Government when their schools do not fulfil necessary criteria or posses proper infrastructure.
DD Thaisii said he came to attend the function as the Education Minister on learning about Mekola Gulap Higher Secondary School's notable academic improvement after languishing at the bottom in terms of academic performance a few years back.
Noting that all parents wish to provide best education to their children and that they have been striving in their best capacity towards this end, Thaisii observed that most parents prefer private schools to Government institutions because of lack of proper building and infrastructure in Government schools.
However, this trend has become a cause of dejection for many impoverished students who could not go to private schools due to high monthly fees, he noted.
The disparity between the students who can afford private schools and those who cannot, as well as the resulting social problems can be addressed by Government school teachers who are getting relatively much higher pay as compared to their counterparts working in private schools if they discharge their duties with dedication rather than attending schools as a routine activity.
He also assured that necessary efforts would be put in to complete the incomplete hostel building of Mekola Gulap Higher Secondary School.
He further exhorted the students to maintain proper discipline and strive to excel in their life.
It is praiseworthy that Manipur has been continuously churning out outstanding students despite all the issues plaguing the State, remarked MLA RK Anand in his address.
He asserted that all the problems and crises can be redressed through quality education.
Underscoring the importance of human resource development, Anand sought attention of the Govt to give education sector more prominent position in the State budget.
Former MP W Angou stated that there would be no dearth of students in Govt schools if the Govt school teachers work as sincerely as their private school counterparts.
Mekola Private Centre member S Gopeshwar said that Mekola was made a private centre for five different schools with the strong support of MLA RK Anand.
The function was also attended by Education Director W Rajen.
