The weeklong workshop on Northeastern States traditional and crafts was inaugurated on Saturday at Wellington House here.
The workshop is being sponsored by the Indira Gandhi Rastriya Manav Sangrahalaya, IGRMS (National Museum of Mankind), Bhopal.
Manipuri embroidery, mambo crafts, pottery, weaving, traditional arts and crafts in eight traditional huts are among those on display at the workshop.
They also demonstrate how those items are made.
The formal inaugural of the workshop under �Parichay Prasanga� would be held on October 25.The Maharaja of Manipur, Sanajaoba Leishemba is also one of those personalities who would be attending the inaugural function as the chief guest.
On the same day the ground portion of the Wellington House would also be opened as the Southern Regional Centre of the IGRMS.
A spectrum of cultural programmes would be staged by proficient artistes from Manipur, Assam and Tripura in the evening of October 25 and 26.The seven day traditional and cultural extravaganza is being aimed at demonstrating the popularity and existence of human cultures, their adaptability potentials and their creativity.
In a statement the IGRMS said the aim of the workshop is to introduce to the cultural mainstream their enriched cultural traditions in various aspects.
Another objective of the workshop is to disseminate the traditional technology and skills prevailing in different schools, the statement said.
During the two day evening at Wellington House the proficient artistes from Manipur will stage Thougal Jagoi, Maibi Laiching Jagoi, Paosa Jagoi, Tribal dance, Thang-ta, Dhon Dholok cholom and Basanta RAs.
