Jiribam, December 13:
A public meeting held today resolved to intensify the ongoing stir for conversion of Jiribam sub-division to a full fledged revenue district.
The public meeting organised by the Jiribam District Demand Committee at Jiribam Higher Secondary School ground today afternoon resolved that the students of the sub-division would wear black badges besides attaching and hoisting black flags in every vehicle and household with immediate effect.
The meeting agreed to launch more intense agitation in case the State Government fails to declare the conversion of Jiribam to a revenue district.
The proposed intense agitation includes prohibition of rail line survey work along Jiribam-Tupul sector.
After the meeting, a complaint letter was also sent to the Prime Minister.
The letter apprised the Prime Minister about the failure of the State Government to initiate any positive action despite 15 days of road blockade imposed along Imphal-Jiribam road demanding fulfilment of the people's justified demand.
It further informed the Prime Minister that no land would be given for Jiri-Tupul rail line and the rail line survey work would be prohibited if Jiribam is not declared a full fledged revenue district by December 16.As a part of the agitation launched since November 27, all election related activities for the forthcoming polls have been banned in the sub-division.
The ongoing Imphal-Jiribam road blockade is set to continue as the matter was not discussed in today's meeting.
It may be mentioned here that many Tamenglong bodies and Church leaders are appealing to lift the blockade in view of the Christmas festival and severe inconveniences being endured by the people.
The JDDC launched the stir after the Govt failed to announce upgradation of the sub-divion to a full fledged revenue district.
The Chief Minister had earlier stated that Jiribam would be upgraded to a district along with Sadar Hills where a similar demand has been raised.
