Imphal, October 22 2014:
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has urged the people of the State to celebrate Diwali without crackers.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the veterinary scheme launching function organised at Veterinary complex, Sanjenthong, the Deputy Chief Minister said that anti-social elements take advantage of the noise created by bursting of crackers during festivals like Diwali.
Saying that DGP Shahid Ahmed had reviewed the security situation of the State ahead of the festival of lights, Gaikhangam urged the general public not to burst crackers while celebrating the festival.
It may be mentioned that a Supreme Court order of July 2005 had banned use of fire crackers in residential areas.
The Deputy Chief Minister urged all concerned not to dampen the spirit of the daughters of the State by clamping bandhs or general strikes ahead of Ningol Chakkouba, one of the biggest festivals of the State.
Extending his greetings on the occasions of Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba, Gaikhangam pointed out that no organisation must do injustice to people to strive for justice.
