Students decry inaction of Moirang police personnel

Demanding resignation of Moirang police personnel for their alleged failure of booking those involved in killing of Phairenjam Nabachandra, a student of Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, a large number of students of the school took out a protest rally at Moirang Lamkhai, Bishnupur district today.
Nabachandra (18), a commerce Class XII student studying in Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School died after he was hit with steel on the head by some laborers engaged in construction of Moirang Chingjin Water Supply at Moirang Chingei Ground on August 4 around 6.30 pm.
Infuriated at the police's inaction to nab the culprits, the student protesters also blocked Moirang Lamkhai road.
Speaking to media persons, Tompok Laishram, a commerce student of the school, said that Nabachandra was called out from his rented room by one Khambaton, mohori of the construction work for having dinner at Moirang Chingei Ground on August 4.A heated confrontation between Khambaton and laborers who were all drunk broke out and Nabachandra was killed when he was hit by steel on his head by the laborers after he tried to stop the fight between them.
Alleging that the Moirang police have failed to nab the culprits despite their assurance that they would be arrested within 12 noon today, Tompok cautioned that students of the school in collaboration with civil society organizations will resort to a series of intense agitation as the police have shied away from their responsibility.
He pledged that the dead body of Nabachandra will not be accepted until all the culprits involved in the merciless killing are apprehended and awarded them befitting punishment.
