'Caught illegal migrants should be legally punished'

The people of Manipur should not hide the illegal migrants settling in different parts of the state and all those who have been caught by the state police should be given appropriate punishment in accordance to the laws of the land, Shantikumar Sharma, President of BJP Manipur Pradesh has observed.
Talking to media persons, Shantikumar Sharma noted that most of the illegal migrants in the state come through Jiribam and Moreh.
There are also reports of a large number of illegal migrants coming to settle for a short period in Bihar and West Bengal before heading to Manipur disguised as Indians.
Illegal migrants from Myanmar are also coming into the uninterruptedly.
Shantikumar said that all those Manipuris who are giving rooms and houses on rent should have proper and valid identification of the outsiders before allowing them to stay since a number of them could be fugitives on the run after involving in some serious crimes in their home states.
The BJP leader expressed surprised over a number of illegal migrants getting facilities of ration cards and their names included in the voters' list.
He also pointed out the urgent need to re-implement Inner Line Permit system in the state to check entry of illegal migrants.
If the State Home Department continues its operation against illegal migrants in the state, it will surely bear fruit, he added.
