Formally arrested

Retired IAS officer A Tombikanta who is presently under judicial custody was formally arrested by Vigilance and Anti Corruption Police from Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa after taking due permission from the Court concerned in another alleged case of corruption.
After getting due permission from the Court concerned, a team of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Police formally arrested A Tombikanta who is presently lodged at Manipur Central Jail since July 5 after the Special Court Prevention of Corruption Imphal West rejected his bail application.
Tombikanta is presently under custody for allegedly misappropriating fund of Rs 2,39,95,578 for expansion of Imphal-Moreh highway.
The latter case pertains to alleged misappropiating Rs 1.55 crore for land compensation of building a tribal girls hostel at Tengnoupal.
The case has been registered under section (420) Cheating (120-B) Criminal Conspiracy and Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 .
