CCpur, August 06 2021:
As water supply problems and irregular electric power supply have cost the lives of two COVID-19 patients who were languishing in the Isolation ward of the district hospital on Saturday and Sunday, and other problems related to the functioning of the lone district hospital surfaced on various WhatsApp groups, the district hospital authorities are in a real tizzy.
In spite of the Covid-19 pandemic plaguing the district and elsewhere in the country with many lives lost, the existence of basic healthcare facility in the district hospital is still a far ciy.
According to some sources, water shortage is one of the problems being faced by patients in all the wards of the hospital apart from the COVID-19 isolation ward.
The water shortage issue cropped up after the main water supply pipe from the source to the storage tank broke.
The water tank has the storage capacity of more than 10,000 litres.
In spite of this, no rectification measures have been initiated by the authorities on the apparent pretext of not having funds, thus leaving the inmates of the hospital to suffer and fend for themselves.
The worst happened when two patients, Thangkhup of Kamdouveng and Paotinlen Haokip of Tuibuong, lost their lives after power cut interrupted their oxygen supply, according to a source.
Concerned over the incident, district in-charge minister (Tribal Affairs, Transport and GAD) Vungzagin Valte along with Singhat (Singngat) MLA and MTDC & MANIREDA chairman GS Haupu visited the district hospital on Friday and interacted with the officials.
DC Churachandpur Pawan Yadav, DGM MPDCL, assistant engineer PHED department and others were also present at the meeting during which issues related to erratic electricity supple and water shortage were discussed.
After a thorough discussion on the challenges faced by the hospital administration, it was decided to form a sub - committee comprising representatives of district administration, PHED, MSPDCL and other departments concerned to look into the inadequacies of the hospital.
The minister urged the district administration to use all available resources for ensuring sufficient supply of water and instructed the DGM of MSPDCL to notify the hospital management in advance about power cuts.
"The government will be there for the people who need help.
If these things can't be done, please inform me.
We will find a way together", Vungzagin assured, while adding, "Mistakes might have been committed, misunderstandings might have cropped up, but I am here to help in making things right" .
