Pension payment through banks made mandatory

All the beneficiaries of Old Age Pension in the state now have to open a personal bank account in a nationalised bank to withdraw money.
A Cabinet meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Friday has decided to make it mandatory for all the Old Age Pension beneficiaries under the state Social Welfare Department to open a personal account at a nationalised bank to withdraw their money.
The step has been taken up by the state Government to ensure all the genuine Old Age Pension beneficiaries to claim it and also to keep at bay all the frauds.
As of now, all the old age pensioners in the state get the benefit in cash through different Government agencies.
The Cabinet meeting also decided to develop and conserve all the water bodies in the Imphal area including drinking water.
For this, the Cabinet will be submitting a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Planning Commission of India at the earliest.
