1st Youth Extravaganza 2012 kicks off

Imphal, April 10 2012:
The 1st Youth Extravaganza 2012, a competition for Red Ribbon Club members to showcase their talents, organised by Manipur State Aids Control Society (MACS) commenced from today at the hall of Maharaja Bodhachandra College, Palace Compound here.
The event, which is a part of the multi media campaign hosted by MACS, would go on for the next three days.
The main highlight of the event is competitions among the youths of the state in three different events, namely Slogan Shouting, Recitation and Drama.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Rk Rosy, Deputy Director, MACS said that the event is being.
organised for the first time in the state and it provides a platform for the youths to explore their hidden talents and compete among themselves in different fields.
It will also impart knowledge to the youths to understand more about HIV and AIDS, its prevention and control measures.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour of the function, Dr A Rajmani, NSS Programme Coordinator, Manipur University, pointed out that Manipur is one among the 6 HIV&AIDS high prevalent states of India.
The State Aids Control Society has been conducting awareness programme in this regard to make the people of the state prevent themselves from the dreaded epidemic.
However, the rate of HIV&AIDS in the state has been increasing during the last many years due to various reasons.
Around 70 participants would be taking part in various compitions which would be organised during the Youth Extravaganza.
The toppers in the events would be awarded cash prizes ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1000 .
The inaugural function was also attended by K Moses Chalai, Commissioner, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Manipur and Dr Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, Project Director, MACS as Chief Guest and President respectively.
