Ukhrul, March 22 2021:
A public convention of Hunphun/Ukhrul villagers today endorsed the Hunphun Frontal Organizations composed of VAs, HEC, HSL & HKL to safeguard and protect the land donated to Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS), until justice is delivered by the District Court.
It may be mentioned that the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) assembly last week invoked the decision of Khangareng (excommunication) to the land owner, Hunphun village.
The decision has aggravated the native villagers, and today the residents of Hunphun/Ukhrul town in thousands held a public meeting at Mission Ground Alungtang to chalk out the future course of action against the decision of 'Khangareng' and also to protect the territorial land within the jurisdiction of Hunphun by reaffirming the decision of "Zungphun" (pledge to protect integrity of the village).
As per Tangkhul custom, once Khangareng is invoked, all relationships and activities such as sharing of things, goods, water or living together are barred.
Hunphunwo/Headman, HA Sarimaya informed the gathering that Hunphun VAs have notified TNL to strictly adhere to the excommunication order as per Tangkhul customs.
TNL being the apex body and guardian of all Tangkhul customs and traditions must uphold the principles of Khangareng to avoid further conflict in the future, failing which TNL would be held responsible for defying the declaration orders.
Vice Chairman of HEC, Phungton Shaiza slammed TNL for their ulterior motive, crippling the education system by encroaching the whole land donated to UHSS for the purpose of educational development in the village.
TNL's issuance of eviction orders to the occupants in the teacher quarters is beyond tolerance, and will not compromise in any circumstance.
Education is the backbone of all development, he added.
M Luikham, HEC chairman elaborated the detailed reports of the court case and stated that the District Court had issued an injunction order to suspend all activities in the disputed land.
Later, Assembly Affairs secretary, Reisangpem Shaiza read out the resolution of the public convention that the villagers of Hunphun/Ukhrul will stand together and respond to the call of Hunphun Frontal Organizations to defend the integrity of the village.
