Imphal, April 10 2012:
President of MPP, Dr Nimaichand Luwang has blamed the party MLAs who defected to Congress weakening the party.
Replying to queries from media, Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that there are three reasons behind the downfall of MPP during the recent elections to the 10th Manipur State Legislative Assembly.
The first and foremost is the defection of MPP MLAs to Congress and abstaining themselves from all the works related to the party.
The party was not in a position to give sufficient financial aid to its candidates and as such many of its former candidates left the party to join Congress.
This could be another reason for the failure of MPP during the elections, Dr Luwang observed.
Even though MPP had already decided to unite all the non-Congress parties to bring about a non-Congress government in the state before the election, the party could not come to a solid decision.
This also contributed to the downfall of the party, he added.
Dr Luwang alleged that even though ECI had put limits on use of money by political parties in elections, the Congress party resorted to use of muscle and money power and ultimately succeeded in the elections winning a large number of seats.
