CCpur, April 07 2020:
A settlement prone to fire, the sub-divisional headquarters of Singngat, today had a brush with the threat as villagers along with the Fire Department raced against time to save the village from a devastating wild fire that razed their backyard.
Sources said the fire which is believed to have originated from the western flank at about 12.30 pm devastated a considerable area of the village's farms and vegetation.
The villagers along with the Fire Brigade assisted by private water suppliers fought to control the fire amidst a strong wave of wind.
Footage of the fire circulated by the villagers shows a raging wild fire and a smoke filled village even as some people resorted to clanking the electric poles to alert villagers, can be continually heard on the background.
The wildfire even caught the bushes located inside the police station and touched area very close to the MELC Church but villagers and the fire personnel who stood guard on the periphery with whatever means they could managed to control it without causing a major damage to properties.
The main fire was put under control at about 3.30 pm.
As there are chances of the wind re-igniting the fire villagers as well as service personnel who are stationed at the sub-divisional hqtrs are said to be still engaged in dousing the embers even as late as 5 pm .
