Imphal, July 21 2011:
Poor drainage system and the unfinished sewerage project of the state government have led to the frequent flooding of Langol Tarung Grace Colony for the past many years.
This year the flood has lasted for a complete one month in this colony leaving the people in complete disaster without any help from the government.
Langol Tarung Grace colony situated under Thangmeiband a/c with an estimated household numbering around 53 has been facing floods for the last one month continuously.
As a result the people in and around the colony has been facing various health problems apart from the usual problems associated with floodings.
Kalam Serto, a resident of Langol Tarung Grace Colony speaking to media persons said that due to the flood almost all poultry and piggery farms have been destroyed sparing none.
This frequent flooding has been facing by the people for the last many years due to the unfinished works of the sewerage project taken up by the PHED and poor drainage system, leaving no room for the coagulated water to be drained out, he said.
The locals have time and again urged the concern authority to bring about a permanent solution to this problem but no action has been taken up so far.
And above all the state government hasn't even care to visit the flooded colony, putting aside the disbursement of relief materials, he lamented.
Though late, the Councilor of ward no.1 Soraishem (o) Binarani has personally paid a visit to the flood effected area and promised the locals that something concrete would be done on this issue.
