Jiribam, January 07 2021:
The Jiribam Development Organisation (JDO) has urged the Tamenglong DC to restrain from any move which would create confusion or tension between the residents of Jiribam and Tamenglong district unnecessarily.
JDO made the appeal during a drive conducted today after some people from Tamenglong, 15 in number, reportedly came to settle in Nungkhal village based on the information from Tamenglong DC that the village falls under the jurisdiction of Tamenglong district.
It was yet another instance of two districts claiming authority over a piece of land.
Police officials of Jiribam district also arrived shortly after learning about the news.
A woman, named Ahoi Pamei, had said that they were there just to study the place after they were allegedly told that it was a Khas land by DC Tamenglong.
Meanwhile, secretary of Leishabithol Club told that they will deny every wrongful attempt on the part of Tamenglong DC to claim authority over lands which fall under the jurisdiction of Jiribam district.
The club thus, in association with JDO conducted the drive to reach out to the people who came to settle at the area, he said.
President of JDO, M Sadananda, said that the Nungkhal area clearly lies within Jiribam district and thus Tamenglong DC should be very careful about the matter.
There is no restriction for Tamenglong residents to settle in Jiribam district but misleading innocent people that the Nungkhal area is under Tamenglong's jurisdiction will do nothing but create unnecessary confusion and enmity between the residents of the two districts, he said.
The individuals, including 3 females, however left the area with the assurance that they will never return to the area again.
