Imphal, January 07 2021:
As part of the Centre's COVID-19 vaccine rollout preparatory plan, the second dry run for vaccination will be conducted in all districts of Manipur except Imphal West and Thoubal tomorrow.
This will be the second dry run for Covid vaccination in the State.
The exercise to test feasibility and preparedness of the vaccination programme will be conducted from 10 am to 12 pm .
The first Nationwide dry run for Covid vaccination was held on January 2 .
The planned Nationwide second dry run tomorrow came after the DCGI (Drugs Controller General of India) approved two vaccines - Covishield and Covaxin for emergency use and is indicative that India may soon launch the Phase-1 of the largest vaccination programme.
DCGI had approved the two vaccines-Serum Institute's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin to fight against COVID-19 pandemic on January 4 .
The drugs regulator had pegged the overall efficacy of Covishield at 70.4 percent which is above the qualifying benchmark of 50% set by various Nations.
On the other hand, Bharat Biotech is conducting Phase-3 clinical trial and its data on efficacy will be available post-March when the final clinical trial is over.
Two doses of both vaccines need to be administered.
The prescribed interval between two Covaxin doses is 14 days while the second Covishield vaccine dose after the first would be administered after a gap of 2.5 to 3 months.
Covishield and Covaxin vaccines require to be kept at 2-8 degree Celsius and as such they have been found most suited for India in terms of transport and local storage.
