Mass drive: IW sees 101, Jiribam 45 positive cases

Around 101 positive cases were detected while carrying out Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on 2172 people in 21 different places of Imphal West District on the fifth day of the aggressive mass testing drive organised by the district administration on Saturday.
According to a report from the District Administration, 123 people were tested at Samurou Awang Leikai of which 6 were found positive; 133 tested at Lam- deng and 3 found positive; 350 at Heibongpokpi and 5 positive; 144 at Kadangband and 5 positive; 155 at Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai and 14 positive cases; 78 at Chanam Pukhri Mapal and 2 positive; 66 at Pishum Ningombam and 15 positive; 360 at Nagamapal and 7 positive; 93 at Uripok Khumanthem and 7 positive; 63 at Tera Loukham Leirak and 5 positive; 149 at Khaidem and 10 positive; 109 at Nambol Phoijing and 8 positive; 17 at Airport and one positive; 138 at Kakwa bazar and 6 positive; two members of one Dr Modhubala's family were tested and one found positive; 12 tested at Phumlou and 4 confirmed to be positive, and 7 at Mayang Imphal of which 2 were positive.
In connection with the mass testing drive at Samurou, Covid-19 Volunteer Samurou Oinam chairman Moirangthem Lokeshwar said that a target was set to test 150 people but the district administration provided only 132 kits.
Urging the district administration to contact the local clubs before any mass testing, the chairman further urged for concerted efforts of all concerned to curb the spread of the virus, adding that the government alone cannot handle the responsibility.
He then appreciated Wangoi AC former MLA Salam Joy for donating face masks and sanitisers for use by the volunteers during the mass testing drive.
Meanwhile, 95 people were tested at Yengkhom Leirak, 21 at BRTF Lamphel and 57 at CRPF Mongsangei of which none tested positive.
No test, however, was conducted at TG Higher Secondary School on Saturday.
In Jiribam district, the mass testing drive was carried out at Jiribam Higher Secondary School for people of Babupara Ward no.4 and 5; at Railway platform no.1 for Babupara Ward no.6; at IB Leikai community hall for Ward no.7 and at the Leishem club building of Kamaranga for Hilghat GP during which 45 people were confirmed positive for Covid-19 infection.
Similar mass testing drive will be carried out at Rajeev Bhavan, Borobekra for Ward no.2, 5 and 6 of Borobekra GP; at Kamaranga Muslim Club Building and Kadamtala community hall on Sunday.
Mention may be made here that Jiribam DM had imposed restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in Ward no.4, 5, 6 and 7 of Jiribam Municipal Council and at certain areas of Kadamtala, from 7pm of June 3 till 6am of June 7, in addition to restricting movement in Kamaranga from 2 pm Sunday till 6am, of June 12 .
