Rs 600 cr package sought

Two days ahead of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's scheduled visit to Imphal on December 3, the government of Manipur has reportedly requested the Prime Minister for announcing an economic package of Rs 600 crore during his visit.
Disclosing this to Hueiyen Lanpao, an official source said that the proposed Rs 600 crore economic package include construction of a State Guest House of 5-star standard at an estimated cost of around Rs 100 crores at the present High Court complex, which would be left vacant after the High Court has been shifted to its new location at Chingmeirong.
The source further disclosed that the proposal also include setting up of a new National Highway which would connect Imphal with Jiribam via Leimatak and Henglep.
The proposed new National Highway would shorten the distance between Imphal and Jiribam by 50 kms.
It is expected that the Prime Minister would accept the proposal, the source added.
