Kukis confused with varied ideologies

Imphal, January 27 2013 : As the ideologies of Kuki leaders are poles apart, people of the community are in a state of 'confusion' over the Kuki statehood demand, leaders of Thadou Students' Association (TSA) and Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) have observed.

Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, General Secretary of TSA James Thomas pointed out that since the demands raised by two major groups of Kuki leaders so different in their basic ideologies, people of the community are confuse and do not whom to be supported.

It is this difference in ideologies may create havoc in Manipur and for the people of the community; the statehood demand is going to be a more intricate issue as long as this difference of ideologies exists.

Apart from it, NSCN-IM's dream for Nagalim and overlapping of territorial boundaries in the maps brought out by the two respective groups of Kuki leaders remains at the core of the issue, he added.

James further pointed out that there is not a single district or area where Kuki or Naga can claim it to be their land since Naga and Kuki have settled together either far or near in a district or a sub-division.

So the issue over the maps Kukiland and Nagalim would remain unsolve unless 'we able to bring a logical end to their demands' .

"In such a situation, the outcome of the issue would be bitter for the people of Manipur and the sense of peaceful co-existence among the various communities of the State might get disturbed.

So, whether we like or not, God has destined us to live in Manipur and we should think for its betterment instead of carving out separate territories.

Before the "seed of enmity" that has been planted among us by ourselves grow fully, a third party (Meeteis) should intervene and bring about a positive and peaceful solution to the present crisis", James Thomas said.

Urging leaders of Kuki and Naga to work together for the betterment of tribal in Manipur by not resorting to violence means to obtain their respective demands, Khenjoi Haokip, Finance Secretary of KSO, Khenjoi Sub-division, said that they need to do away with communal and narrow outlook.

"It's necessary to create a common platform for tribal people to fight for their rights.

But peace and unity could prevail only when all the people of Manipur, both those living in the hills and the plain, go together hand in hand", Haokip maintained.
