Cleanliness must for flourishing health sector : Jayantakumar

Observing that many age-old conventions that emphasise on cleanliness have been ignored by the present generation, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar asserted that it is high time to introspect whether the generation is proceeding towards advancement or reversing from it .
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a One Day Symposium Competition on the topic "Clean India Mission Campaign in the Medical Colleges & Hospitals and its Importance" organised by RIMS at its Jubilee Hall today .
The Minister recalled that there were several conventions on cleanliness in the past in the Manipuri society like cleaning the body after entering toilets and burning or dumping weeds and wastages in a routine manner .
Even though the present society relies on scientific tools and equipments and are said to be well educated, there is an apparent need to check oneself whether the needful civic sense of being a citizen is possesed or not, he said .
Maintaining that the right to life and good health is an integral part of life, he asked whether there is anything in life that has no connection with it .
Cleanliness should be started from oneself and when people execute any cleanliness task, he or she is performing a great responsibility for the society, Jayantakumar said, adding that cleanliness is must for flourishing the health sector of a society .
He also underscored the need to work in community level to make a city or a State clean and health.
Sincerity and civic sense is the main driving force, he added .
Jayantakumar said that the Government of India is investing huge amount of money under "Clean India Mission Campaign" as many citizens of the country are too reluctant to carry out cleanliness works .
Encouraging the students who came to participate in the symposium to acquire positive ideas and notions from the symposium and apply them practically in their life, the Minister stressed on the need to prepare and nurture oneself with positive thoughts and ideas during schooling days in order to become a productive member of the society in the future .
He also asked the participants to sincerely speak out what was in their mind while speaking at the symposium instead of reading out well-drafted write ups by any known persons .
RIMS Director Professor A Santa Singh while delivering his presidential speech announced that blue cards will be maintained as OPD tickets for senior citizens at RIMS Hospital soon and priority will be given to them in catering healthcare services at the hospital .
He further informed that 7th Pay Commission scale for all the staff of the hospital will be released from today .
Emphasising on the aspect of cleanliness, the Director observed that maintenance of dustbin and its usage should be developed as a habit by the citizens of the State .
He urged the State Government to keep proper dustbins along the roadsides and streets in the State .
Speaking as guest of honour, RIMS Medical Superintendent Ch Arunkumar Singh conveyed that "Clean India Mission Campaign" was conducted recently inside the premises of the hospital by mobilized staff and public to make the hospital campus dust free and clean .
Altogether 19 students from different colleges and schools participated in the symposium competition.
