Preparations afoot to control TB in State by 2025

State Health Society has started making preparations to control Tuberculosis in the State in sync with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to eradicate the disease within the set deadline .
Addressing newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, State TB Officer, State Health Society, RNTCP Dr Yumnam Gopalkrishna said that 25% of Indians are afflicted with TB and India is known as the TB capital of the world .
He said that for the last 40 years, no effective measure could be taken to control the disease .
Taking this into consideration, BJP-led Government at the Centre started making effective preparations to control the disease in the country by 20125, he said .
Maintaining that awareness campaigns are being organised in the State in this regard, he appealed to the people to extend support to the initiative .
He informed that efforts are being made to meet the requirement of medical facilities in the hill areas .
He also said that it is illegal to sell TB medicines and patients afflicted with the diseases should be given timely treatment and medicines .
In 2016, there were 1564 patients in the public sector and 364 patients in the private sector, who were diagnosed with TB.
By November 2017, the numbers increased to 1301 (public sector) and 865 (private sector), he informed.
