33rd National Eye Donation Fortnight celebrated

National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment Manipur (NPCB&VI) and National Health Mission Medical Directorate, Lamphel organised 33rd National Eye Donation Fortnight 2018 Awareness cum Painting Competition at THAU Ground, Thangmeiband, DM College Road, Imphal.
The event was organised under the theme "Don't leave a will, leave a vision" .
Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar Singh, Director National Health Mission (NHM) N bandana Devi, IAS and Director Family Welfare Services K Rajo Singh attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Dr Victor (JNIMS) spoke at the event about the current scenario of blindness in India.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO) report, out of 37 million blind worldwide, 15 million are Indian, which is the capital of blindness.
The Government of India and Manipur is planning to set up eye bank at JNIMS along with the help of national Health Mission Manipur, he said.
The aim of the function today is inform and encourage eye donation.
At present there is no proper facility for eye transplant at JNIMS, he said.
The painting competition for Class VI to X students was participated by 140 students from across the State.
Martin Tongbram (Class VII) from Pitambara English School was declared winner of the competition.
Vinesh Keisham (Class IX) from Pitambara English School and Telen Khaidem (Class X) from DAV Public School secured first and second runners up respectively.
