Four die as Covid threat persists, 35 newly infected

As the threat of Covid-19 pandemic persists despite comparatively low daily positivity rate, the virus has claimed yet another four lives and infected 35 more in the last 24 hours.
The 35 new cases were from among 1247 samples screened, thus recording a positivity rate of 2.81 per cent whereas Sunday reported 2.78 per cent positivity rate.
The four new fatalities took the total number of fatalities to 1953.None of the four victims had received Covid-19 vaccines and one each of them were from Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Ukhrul districts.
Out of the 16 districts, only eight reported fresh Covid cases on Monday with Imphal West continuing to top the infection chart with 16 positive cases.
In terms of positivity rate, Kamjong district recorded highest single day positivity rate at 16.7 per cent while Bishnupur district registered lowest positivity rate at 1.3 per cent.
Churachandpur, Jiribam, Kang-pokpi, Noney, Pherzawl, Senapati, Tamenglong and Thoubal districts were free from the infectious disease in the past 24 hours.
The active caseload rose to 800, out of which 63 (7.88 per cent) are in home isolation.
There is no updated information regarding bed availability.
So far, the state has recorded 95,117 positive cases and 1579 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.
The current month reported 786 new positive cases and 32 death cases out of which 380 new cases and 16 fatalities were added in the last seven days alone According to official reports, all the 35 new cases (21 male & 14 female) are from among the general population and their samples were confirmed at RIMS (7), JNIMS (3) and other testing centres (25) .
The positive cases are from Imphal East (12), Imphal West (16), Bishnupur (1), Kakching (2), Chandel (1), Kamjong (1), Tengnoupal (1) and Ukhrul (1).All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.
In the last 24 hours, 26 patients were discharged from home isolation (8), RIMS (1), JNIMS (3) and CCCs (14) .
The cumulative number of positive cases is 1,24,517 (general population - 1,20,167 and CAPF personnel - 4,350) .
Number of recovered cases is 1,21,764 (general population - 1,17,432 and CAPF personnel - 4,332) and number of active cases is 800 (general population - 787 and CAPF personnel - 13).The recovery rate is 97.79 per cent.
A total of 365 D-type and 7 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.
Only 2945 vaccine doses were administered on Sunday and it took the cumulative number of vaccinated persons to 12,61,813 which include 7,97,901 fully vaccinated individuals.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (43,505), Imphal East (27,600), Thoubal (9461), Churachandpur (10,168), Kangpokpi (2783), Tamenglong (3283), Bishnupur (9180), Senapati (2239), Ukhrul (2971), Kakching (6411), Chandel (2345), Noney (1071), Tengnoupal (1071), Jiribam (1022), Kamjong (943) and Pherzawl (464) .
Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (649), Imphal East (465), Thoubal (176), Churachandpur (162), Kangpokpi (62), Tamenglong (14), Bishnupur (191), Senapati (10), Ukhrul (43), Kakching (112), Chandel (40), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (13), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .
Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 40,128 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 24,631 CPM.
Test rate has improved to 4,48,698 tests per million population against the national average of 4,46,647 TPM.
Case fatality rate stands at 1.57 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, only 1247 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 2.81 per cent per cent while the cumulative positivity came down to 8.94 per cent.
