HSLCE-2023 result declared; boys outshine girls

Imphal, June 15 2023: Education minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh on Thursday declared the results of the High School' Leaving Certificate Examination, 2023 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Examination, 2023 (BSEM), at a function held at the top floor examination hall of BSEM at Babupara.

The top positions were all bagged by students of Ratankumar Memorial (RM) School, Kwakeithel Hei-noukhongnembi.

The firsl position was bagged by Yengkhom Parei hanba s/oY Sukumar of Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi with a total of 594 marks out of 600; second by Omega Chanu Wangkhem d/o San-joy Wangkhem Meitei of Irengbam Mamang Awang Leikai and Venus Laiphrakpam d/o L Sadananda of Nambol Awang Leikai with a total of 591 marks; and third position by Ophelia Chanu Ngangom d/o Ngangom Basan of Kakyai Mamang Leikai, Sanchitra Thokchom d/o Th Birjit of Thangmeiband Thingel Leikai and Silvia Mutum d/o M Bashu Singh of Bamdiar Makha Leikai with a total of 588 marks out of 600 .

No government school figured in the top 25, as all top 25 positions were secured by students of private schools.

For this year, 38,127 students enrolled/for the examination of which 37, 870 appeared and 31,365 passed at 82.82 pass percentage.

Boys outshone the girls, with pass percentage of 84.53 per cent compared to 83.45 per cent of female candidates.

Around 56.52 per cent of students passed in first division, 25.53 per cent in second division and 0.77 per cent in third division.

Meanwhile, around 8065 students from government schools appeared in the examination, of which 5401 passed at 66.96 per cent pass percentage.

For aided schools, 1453 stu dents appeared in the examination and 1187 passed at 81.69 per cent pass percent age.

From private schools, 28,352 appeared and around 24777 passed, putting the pass percentage at 87.39 per cent.

District-wise, Thoubal and Kakching districts had highest pass percentage at 89.61 per cent.

Announcing the result, minister Basanta Kumar said that the overall pass percentage this year (82.82 per cent), is a significant rise from last year's 76.00 per cent.

The improvement in the overall pass percentage underscores effort made by the teachers irrespective of whether the school is a government, aided or private, he stated.

While no government school figured among the top 25, the pass percentage of government schools has also improved.

Thus, concerted efforts will be made to en sure students of government schools make a mark in the upcoming years, he conveyed.

Basanta Kumar then applauded the hard work of the staff of the Board in declaring the result on time amid the restive situation in the state.

While there were challenges in scrutinising the papers for language subjects, the department also utilised helicopters to transport the papers to the examining teachers, he revealed.

The minister further congratulated all the students for clearing the examination and expressed his hope that the students will continue to work hard in their future endeavours.

Education (S) commissioner Cyan Prakash, director L Nandakumar Singh and BSEM chairman A Joykumar Singh attended the function as guests of honour and pres ident respectively.

Officials and staff of BSEM were also present at the function.
