TB claims 1464 lives in last one decade in state

During the last one decade Tuberculosis (TB) has killed at least 1464 people in the state with the highest mortality rate recorded in the year 2003, with 250 deaths.
According to report received from the State TB Society, a total of 1767 patients were treated for TB in all the treatment centres of the state in the year 2001 .
Out of the 1767 patients, 1379 were successfully treated and the remaining 66 patients lost their lives.
In 2002, another 56 patients died from out of 5493 patients treated.
In 2003, a total of 250 patients lost their lives due to TB from out of 5078 patients brought for treatment at various TB treatment centres.
The report further informed that another 257 patients died from TB out of the total 4461 patients brought for treatment in 2004 .
In the year 2005, a total of 4639 patients were treated while 153 patients succumbed to TB.
A total number of 4705 patients were treated for TB in 2006, out of which 3985 patients were successfully cured while the remaining 122 patients died.
In the year 2007, a total number of 8293 patients were treated while 57 patients died.
In 2008, 3593 patients were successfully treated and 151 patients died.
In 2009, a total of 3572 patients were successfully treated and 147 patients lost their lives to TB.
Likewise, in 2010, a total of 3670 patients were treated for TB, out of which 3554 patients were cured and the remaining 131 patients lost their lives.
In 2011, a total number of 3080 patients were brought for treatment at various TB treatment centres.
Among them, 2716 patients were successfully cured while the remaining 114 patients lost their lives.
So, during the last one decade, a total of 39120 patients were successfully treated while 1464 patients lost their lives to TB.
In India, around 18 lakhs people are infected with TB and around 4 lakhs of people die of TB every year.
Before the initiation of Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) in India, one person died from TB every minute.
