Rupmahal Theatre celebrates 76th anniversary

Rupmahal Theatre celebrated its 76th anniversary and kick started the 20th Rupmahal Artistes Memorial Drama Festival which was followed by presentation of 29th Meitram Bira Award at its auditorium today.
The Meitram Bira Award 2019 was conferred to artistes Laishram Tondon with a cash award of Rs 10,000, citation and shawl.
Laishram Tondon was born in 1930 and is residing at Khurai Puthiba Leikai near Khurai keithel.
Professor IS Kangjam graced the function as the chief guest while Rupmahal Theatre Chairman K Heramani attended as the functional president.
Speaking at the function, Professor IS Kangjam said that Rupmahal theatre, since its establishment, has been a mouthpiece for different plays based on the history, culture and customs and society of Manipur while the artistes have put their heart and soul to portray the story to the audience.
He opined that it is a noble motive to encourage talented and hard working artistes by conferring the Meitram Bira Award since 1991.To mark the launching of the 20th Rupmahal Artistes memorial Drama Festival, a play titled Meinagi Laishang was performed.
