Imphal, June 28 2011:
"Dialogue is the only way to hammer out a solution to any problem, which is why the government of India, government of Manipur and United Naga Council (UNC) have been sitting across the table seeking a solution", Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and Manipur in-charge Luizinho Faleiro said in a press conference at Congress Bhawan in Imphal Tuesday before he left for Delhi.
"The UNC is engaged in talks by the government in order to initiate and promote peace in the state and the region", the Congress leader said, adding that AICC will explore all possible means to break the gridlock between Manipur government and UNC to bring about peace in the state.
The ongoing development works under the wings of the Secular Progressive Front government of Manipur will be historic landmarks upon their completion, Faleiro said.
The City Convention Centre, under construction, will be state of the art and the under-construction High Court Complex is one of a kind and the best judiciary complex in the entire NE, he added.
In the field of education and educational institutions too, Manipur has not lagged behind other institutes of excellence like JNIMS, Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT), and MU etc.
catering to the need of the growing number of students in the state, he stated.
He strongly criticised Ramdev and Anna Hazare by terming their movements against corruption and black money as a "hidden agenda" of the BJP.
He said that the Congress government has already taken up concrete steps to tackle the menace of corruption.
On the Lokpal issue he said, "Congress is a committed political party Lokpal Bill will be passed soon." He also said that the BJP, should tackle corruption in the states ruled by it.
CM, Okram Ibobi, who was present at the press conference, said that a cabinet sub-committee has been instituted to look into the details of the provision on declaration of assets by ministers and its work is in progress.
"Assets can not be declared as we please as there are norms and guidelines defining it," he said.
The CM also said that the demand for the conversion of Jiribam sub-division into a full fledged revenue district is a genuine one but the government can not throw caution to the winds as there are inherent problems which the government is not prepared to face yet.
