Patient hurls negligence slur on RIMS doctors

Negligence of the doctors in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Lamphel forced a poor patient to perform surgeries five times costing him a fortune, alleged the patient, who identified himself as Hijam Romesh in a press meet at Manipur Press Club here today.
Narrating his sad story, Romesh told reporters that Dr GS Moirangthem and Dr Ch Ashakumar of RIMS did not take much care when he was admitted with knife injuries in his belly on August 4, 2010.A surgery was conducted on the following day under the supervision of Dr Ch Arun of Singjamei Chingamakha and placed his intestine at the side of his belly citing that his intestine sustained injuries and it was the only solution.
Then he was discharged from the hospital on August 17, 2010 .
Later on December 22 of the same year, he was again admitted in the hospital for another surgery to place the intestine at its right place and the surgery was conducted on December 27 .
However, the intestine got leaked within four days of surgery.
So, another surgery was performed on January 6, 2011 and was discharged on January 24, 2011 .
He lived with the displaced intestine for about one year until March 14, 2012 after which he was admitted again to place the intestine in its right position.
Accordingly, yet another surgery was performed on March 19 and placed he intestine in its original place only to find it leaked again within days of undergoing the surgery.
Fearing of losing his life in the hand of RIMS doctors and unable to bear the charges for repeated surgeries, the poor patient he forced the authority to discharge him from RIMS Hospital on March 28, 2011 and admitted himself to JNIMS hospitals the next day.
On March 30, Surgeon Dr N Jiten performed the surgery and he was discharged on April 17 .
After this condition improved significantly and he leading a normal life now, Romesh told reporters.
Denouncing negligence of doctors of RIMS which cost him more than Rs 2 lakhs, which is like a fortune to a mason like him, Romesh called for appropriate action against the doctors of RIMS who neglected in their duty and caused lot of inconveniences and troubles.
Romesh informed that he had borrowed money from his relatives and friends to perform the surgeries at RIMS and he had mortgaged his homestead for the last surgery at JNIMS.
