Lack of work culture is main reason for migrant influx: Minister Ph Parijat

Urging the people of the state to develop a work culture and expressing serious concern on the heavy influx of non Manipuris in the state, Labour & Employment Minister, Ph Parijat today said that the lack of a work culture and willingness to do any sort of work for sustaining one's life is the main reason for the heavy influx of non Manipuri migrants in the state.
Speaking on the foundation day celebration of the Manipur Senmit Ehou Lup (MASEL) at Mass Hotel, Assembly road, Minister Parijat said that large numbers of non Manipuris are residing in the state to earn their livelihood.
They are doing all sorts of work from being cobblers to barbers, porters to vendors to earn their livelihood.
Many of them have made their fortune reaping riches from rags while people of the state think such works as sub standard.
They will automatically go back if all the works they are doing in the state are done by the people of the state.
Talking about various schemes for labours, Parijat said that there are various welfare schemes of the labours under Un-organised Social Security Act.
A registered labourer of the Manipur Building and Other Constructions Workers' Welfare Scheme will now get monthly pension of ' 500 after they reach 60 years.
The Labour Department is planning to implement an insurance policy for registered labourers which will insure a sum of ' 50,000 in case of accidents and ' 1 lakh in case of death.
The department is providing monetary assistance to children of registered labourers giving a monthly assistance of ' 2,000 to Higher Secondary Level, ' 3000 to Graduate Level and ' 4000 to PG students.
A labourer needs to register with the Labour Department to avail the various welfare schemes of the labours.
There are 1700 registered labourers in the state at present.
UCM president Y Dilipkumar, president of Nupi Marup Ibeni, president of Khwairamban Keithel Nupi Semgat Sagat Lup Ibengou and Eye Specialist Dr Ramananda were among others who attended the function.
