Imphal /Itanagar/Dimapur, January 02 2014: Yet to come in term with the shock from the Zunheboto episode that cost its Mukalimi designated camp on December 30, 2013, bad day for NSCN-IM leadership continues to linger on into the new year, 2014 .

At least four persons, including two hardcore NSCN (IM) rebels died on the spot and a woman was seriously injured in a fierce encounter on Thursday between security forces and the outfit in troubled Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh while two other cadres of the Naga rebel group which has been in a rather long drawn peace talks with the Government of India were arrested with exhorted money from Dimapur on the eve of New Year.

The shoot out encounter, which took place at Hollam village under Khonsa circle lasted for nearly an hour, Tirap SP Vikramjit Singh said.

"On specific information about the presence of the militants in the village, a team of Assam Rifles cordoned the area.

Seeing the security personnel, the militants resorted to firing which forced the security personnel to retaliate," the SP said.

The slain militants were identified as self-styled sergeant major of the outfit Wang Shung Mi and Corporal Sumong Tikhil and hail from Nagaland.

In the cross firing, two civilians died when they tried to run away from the encounter site, he said and added that they were identified as Panjam Wangsu and Ranthak Wangsu of the village while another civilian, a woman, who was injured was admitted to the Khonsa hospital.

A massive manhunt was launched in the area immediately in search of other probable militants.

Meanwhile, strong reaction evoked at Khonsa, the district headquarters over the death of the two civilians.

Public and students' unions resorted to road blockade demanding immediate arrest of the persons involved.

Meanwhile, according to a report filed by Newmai News Network from Dimapur, personnel of Assam Rifles arrested two NSCN-IM cadres in Dimapur on the eve of New Year with extorted money.

Quoting Assam Rifles sources, the report said based on specific information regarding extortion and transhipment of weapons by underground cadres, troops of 37 Assam Rifles established a mobile check post at Chumukedima in Dimapur and apprehended two NSCN-IM cadres with extorted money worth Rs.1,50,585 .

The arrested cadres have been identified as one 'lieutenant' Imtisanen Waling (35) of NSCN (IM), a resident of Mon district and Syed Safi Ahmed (26) an overgound worker who is a resident of Golaghat (Assam).

The apprehended Individuals alongwith recoveries were later handed over to Diphupar Police Station, the Assam Rifles source said.

In another incident, in coordination with Nagaland Police, a Mobile Check Post of 37 Assam Rifles apprehended Samuel Marak (36), a resident of Dhansiripar at Kukidolong, Nagaland.

The individual was involved in abduction of a truck driver in Dimapur and was being tracked by Nagaland Police which led to his apprehension.

The individual was handed over to Nagaland Police after apprehension, the Assam Rifles source claimed.
