Imphal, July 23 2018:
Demanding the implementation of 7th Pay Commission's recommendations along with arrears with effect from January 1, 2016, Election Department Employees Association, Manipur today staged a sit in protest at the premises of Election Department located at Lamphel near Imphal West Exchange office today.
The protest was part of the ongoing cease work strike being carried out by Government employees under the aegis of the JAC of AMTUC & AMGEO on demand for implementing the 22 points charter of demand, including 7th Pay in the State.
The cease work strike has entered 124 days today.
Speaking to media persons, Election Department Employees Association, Manipur secretary Thokchom Rajesh decried that the State Government has been ignoring the legitimate demands of the Manipur Government employees till present day.
He lamented that the Government is waiting for the protest agitation to subside instead of finding out ways to resolve the matter.
However, the employees will never allow the agitation to fizzle out and the agitation will only get intensified as it drags longer and longer, he warned.
Reminding that a MoU, regarding 7th Pay was signed between the State Government and Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF), Manipur Secretariat Services Association (MSSA) and Manipur State Pensioners Union (MSPU) in the past, he demanded that the MoU should be declared null and void.
Placards inscribing slogans like "Translate the promises inserted/included in the vision documents of BJP, implement 7th Pay" and "One Nation, one market, one pay; we demand implementation of 7th Pay" were displayed during the protest.
