Weight and Measures department conducts surprise inspection

As a Government initiative for promoting public health, CAF & PD Director & also Controller, Weight & Measures Department, Government of Manipur, Ranjan Yumnam today conducted surprise inspection drives at Mothers Care Children Hospital & Research Centre, Sagolband, Ima Market and several essential items - commodities stores at Thangal Bazar in connection with the upcoming festive season.
The inspection drive was mainly aimed at monitoring whether the vendors accurately measure the weights of the essential commodities bought by the customers in the market, Ranjan Yumnam stated.
Talking to media persons, he also said that the main motive behind the inspection at the hospital is to check if there is any irregularity in the measurements of the machines used for the newly-born babies.
"We are also thinking of means to rectify the inaccuracies of the instruments and have also given advisory to the hospital authorities", he assured.

We have also seized some of the weighing machines after irregularities have been checked during our inspection drive at Ima Market, he further said.
"We will also inspect LPG gas cylinder stores, cement & hardware shops and verify their weights.
Automobile parts sold in the market without proper labelling, packets and Maximum Retail Prices(MRP) marking will also be monitored and stern action will be taken up against them", Ranjan Yumnam informed.
Briefing the media, he also said that they will appeal the public to raise awareness to replace the old, traditional method of measuring valuable expensive items like jewellaries in sans and chanings by the International Metric System that minutely measures them in terms of grams.
Highlighting that the inspectors of Weight & Measures Department will regularly and continuously conduct inspection at the stores until the festival ends, Ranjan further explained that public awareness and vigilance is need to deal with the issue.
"The public should quickly report to the Department giving the details of the vendor and the commodities in any such cases and immediate action will be taken", he also assured.
Controller, Weight & Measures Department, Ranjan Yumnam also said that Assistant Controllers & inspectors are posted in almost all the different districts of Manipur to look into the matter.
