First case of Dengue detected in State

For the first time in the history of Manipur, Dengue has been confirmed from the blood test of one of the patients admitted to RIMS Hospital for treatment.
Two girls from the same family of Moreh were reportedly admitted to the Hospital with complaints of high fever for days on October 22 last.
However, one of the girls died soon after admission.
As the attending doctors became suspicious of her case, blood samples were sent to SRL Ranbaxy Ltd, Mumbai for testing and the report sent by the lab said that the blood sample of girl was found to be positive of Dengue.
The first Dengue victim has been identified as M Puni (9) daughter of M Imo of Moreh Ward No 9 Khunou Leikai.
The younger sister of the deceased identified as M Vidya, however, was discharged from RIMS on November 2 as she had fully recovered, according to media advisor of RIMS.
Soon after the receipt of the confirmation report, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Prof Y Mohen had alerted the State Health Officials concerned, RIMS media advior said, adding that it has been learnt that officials of the State Health Department will be rushing to Moreh to examine the girl and collect other relevant information.
According to information received by the press, a medical team of the State Health Services will head to Moreh tomorrow.
Prof Mohen of RIMS has also reportedly communicated the matter related to outbreak of Dengue in Manipur to the Director of ICMR, Regional Centre, Dibrugarh J Mahanta for sending a team of medical experts immediately to assess the situation.
Meanwhile, our Moreh correspondent reports that at least 20 persons in the border town had died with Dengue like symptoms during the past few days even as many other patients with similar symptom are undergoing treating at the local hospital.
However, along with confirmation of the outbreak following the death of Puni, MO in-charge of Moreh Hospital Y Mani has written a letter to the Director of Health Services of the State Government for taking up necessary measures.
Meitei Council, Moreh and AMSU Chandel District Committee, while lamenting over lack of adequate health care facilities in the border State have also appealed to the authorities concerned for sending a medical team at the earliest possible.
