One unidentified militant was killed when BSF personnel confronted a militant group coming in a 407 mini Tata at Wangoo Lamkhai in Thoubal district in the wee hours today.
One AK 56 rifles, two magazines, some rounds of ammunition and two vehicles were recovered after the incident.
BSF DIG PK Mishra, in a statement said that the militants numbering around five came from Saiton side to ambush the Wangjing Khunou 2nd Bn BSF post at around 2.30 am today.
The militants entered the area shutting off the headlights of the mini Tata.
They were challenged by the BSF personnel who were carrying out frisking in the area.
BSF personnel retaliated when the militants started firing at them with automatic weapons, the BSF statement said.
An encounter ensued for around 30 minutes in which one militant in combat dress was killed while the others escaped under the cover of darkness.
One AK 56 rifle, two magazines and 20 rounds of ammunitions were recovered along with the mini Tata bearing registration number MN 02-4346.Police said the vehicle belongs to Naodakhong Youth Sorting and Cultural Organization, an NGO based Wangoo.
The BSF statement said that the militants had prepared for self defence in the rear of the vehicle.
It also alleged that the some vehicle was used in a militant ambush last week in which one BSF man was killed.
One Hero Honda motor cycle used by the militants was also recovered from the site of the incident, the statement added.
However, it was later found out that the motor cycle belonged to one Loitongbam Jiten (30) of Pangaltabi, a post master in the area.
He has been later handed over to police in the morning.
Police have deposited the body at the RIMS morgue today.
The slain militant stand around 5.4ft in height is of dark complexion and has tribal features.
He was hit at his head and left high.
Tooth brush, tooth past and candles were also recovered from the slain UG.
In another case, unidentified assailants shot dead a 50 year old man at Keithelmanbi under Yairipok police station last night.
The victim has been identified as Sorokhaibam Budhi of Charangpat Mayai Leikai an ex- pradhan of the area.
Reports said that Budhi was taken away from his residence at around 3 pm yesterday and his body was recovered at Keithelmanbi area at around 6.30 this morning.
The motive behind the killing is not known yet.
Another dead body was recovered from Thanga village Loukon area.
The body identified as a 42 year old Sorokhaibam Shyamkesho of Karong village.
The victim went out of his residence last night and his body was recovered by family members at around 6.30 this morning.
