Minister firms on upgrading Language cell

The issue of upgrading the Language cell into a Directorate would be brought up and discussed in a Cabinet meeting to be convened soon after the CM returns to Imphal, Education Minister M Okendro has assured.
Speaking as Chief Guest of a day-long discussion session on undesired intermingling of Meetei language with words from various other languages organized by MEELAL at SCERT, Lamphelpat today, the Minister stated that though the State government made certain mistakes, though inadvertently, in the past while trying to protect and popularize Meetei language and script, today it is really focused and serious over the issue.
To find out and make necessary amendment over the issue of mixing of Manipuri language with other languages is the need of the hour and we should join hands in this effort, the Minister exhorted.
Delivering the key note address, Thakaba Meetei, Gen Secy of MEELAL explained that the day-long discussion session has been organized to identify use of mixed language in books prescribed for school syllabus and to encourage imminent writers to use indigenous names for places in place of newly coined names while writing books.
Presided over by S Tomba, President of MEELAL, the inaugural function of the discussion session was also graced by Dr H Nabachandra, Secretary of Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur as Guest of Honour.
