Unsolved Mystery: Eerie voice haunts man in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, May 18 2015 : You are just starting to sleep at night and you are suddenly wakened by a mysterious voice of someone familiar calling your name.

But you could find nobody when you actually get up from your lying position and walk towards the source of the voice.

Then an eerie atmosphere fills the room.

You continue to experience this every now and then right in your own house.

This may sound like the story from a horror flick but this is a true account of what happened to a household in a far-off village in Ukhrul district.

This is the story of LA Pamching an elderly man and his five-member family who live in a house on the outer edge of remote Chingjaroi CV village situated about three-and-half hour drive toward North from Ukhrul district headquarters.

Chingjaroi CV has around 350 houses scattered across three localities of Tangrei, Honeymoon and Greenwich.

The supposedly haunted house of Pamching is situated on the uppermost edge of Tangrei which is secluded from the rest of the locality by a small distinct mound bound by steep slopes on south-western side locally known as 'Rayivan Ngashan' and village cemetery on the east.

Situated beyond the Chingjui Christian local church and Worshon Mission School campus, the said house lies farthest up next to the un-commissioned BSNL tower among the only three families residing on the mound.

Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao Correspondent, Pamching narrated that his family has been living at the house for more than 20 years now and during this long period his family members have experienced a myriad of unnatural and mysterious incidents within the family campus as well as along the path leading up to his house.

"Occasionally I hear a very familiar voice calling me by name at night when I am in a state between waking and sleeping.

Sometimes the voice is very identical to that of my sons or daughters though they are fast asleep in another rooms.

It normally calls my name only once and when I rise to see there would be no one," he wondered saying I cannot explain why these things happen here unabated.

He further recounted that some ten years back, he experienced one such eerie incident saying that one night he saw a bright diamond-like light moving stealthily beneath the bed in his room.

"I was so startled that I called my wife and she also saw exactly what I saw.

It was about the size of a baby's toy ball," he said adding " but it disappeared as I tried to grap hold of it with my hand" .

In yet another recent instance, he said, he had an eerie experience when he was returning home after a village meeting late at night.

He narrated that as soon as he walked up the path leading to his house he suddenly heard the sound of something beating a path through the side bushes.

"Thinking that it was an animal I pelted the sound source with a stone, just then a voice identical to my wife responded 'Who is it? Quickly I reached home only to find my wife fast asleep inside.

When I asked her whether she just went outside, she was surprised at my query," he said with a startled look.

He said that this phenomenon, though eerily mysterious, has not hurt anyone of his family member, while adding that this might be because nobody in my family is badly scared of ghost.

He said that his two neighbours have made a point of leaving their houses at night time every day and stay over at their relatives' houses due to fear.

On a query if there was any historical background behind the mystery in connection with the plot, Pamching said that there is no known good or bad history about the place.

"It still remains a mystery to me," he added.
