Student succumbs to bullet injury : JAC Blocks Imphal-Ukhrul road
demands termination of commandos

Imphal, May 18 2015 :
An indefinite blockade has been enforced along Imphal-Ukhrul road from Monday afternoon to protest against the killing of a student by a team of police commandos during a car chase Sunday night.
The incident happened around 7:30 pm at Kangla Shagomshang in Imphal East.
The deceased has been identified as Konsam Korounganba (18), a Class 12 student hailing from Khurai Konsam Leikai in Imphal East.
The injured, Vivek (19) from Konthoujam Mamang Leikai in Imphal West, is also a Class 12 student.
Vivek is now undergoing treatment at JNIMS, Porompat.
One bullet slightly pierced the right side of his neck in the shooting.
The duo along with 10 other friends in two cars�one Chevrolet and one i20�were returning home after a trip to Chingnungkhok when the shooting took place.
A team of police tried to stop them near Lamlai Police Station for checking, but they allegedly fled.

When they reached Sawombung gate another team of police signaled them to stop, but they allegedly refused and drove away.
Then, a police commando team from Imphal East started chasing them.
The Chevrolet car was blocked at Kangla Shagomshang by a truck.
As the car slowed down, the commandos allegedly started shooting.
The car chase ended tragically with the police shooting and wounding Korounganba and injuring Vivek.
The police also arrested two of their friends who are identified as Chabungbam Manoj (18) from Phubala and Chanam Premananda (18) from Khurai Konsam Leikai.
Korounganba was rushed to JNIMS, but he was later referred to Shija Hospital where he succumbed to the bullet injury after midnight.
A joint action committee was formed to seek justice in the shooting incident during a public meeting at Khurai Popular High School ground on Monday.
The JAC later announced for an indefinite blockade of the Imphal-Ukhrul road starting Monday afternoon to protest against the incident.
The committee vowed that it would not withdraw the blockade until its demands are met by the State Government.
The demands of the JAC include unconditional release of the two arrested boys and all police commandos involved in the incident are sacked.
