Ukhrul, September 09 2020:
Locals of Dungrei Hundung village, Ukhrul today staged a sit-in protest against the disparity in PMGKAY rice distribution in the locality.
The protestors expressed that they received a lesser quantity of PMGKAY rice than assured by the State Government, which is 5 kg to every individual during the pandemic.
The Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul on the other hand, has issued an order for fair distribution of PMGKAY rice in every FPS centre for ensuring exact quantity to all targeted beneficiaries in the district.

According to the order, PMGKAY rice should be distributed as per the allotment of the quotas at their respective FPS centres and there should be no local/village adjustment.
The distribution of PMGKAY rice with local adjustment and convenience should immediately be stopped as it is against the guidelines and instructions of the Government.
However, the protestors mentioned that over 500 individuals who are living without a ration card in the locality will be deprived of the benefits.
In this regard, a charter of demands was submitted to DC, Ukhrul yesterday.
According to their demands, every individual should be provided 5 kg of rice irrespective of holding ration card or not, missing rice must also be compensated by respective FPS agents and 1 kg of pulses for April to September under PMGKAY must be distributed.
The protestors also sought clarification from the district administration for charging Rs 20 per ration card holder in Vashimtang.
The protestors have asked the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul to address the problem at the earliest, and cautioned of launching democratic agitations if the demands are ignored.
Meanwhile, the DC of Ukhrul has instructed all FPS agents of the district to strictly follow instructions and guidelines in distributing PMGKAY rice and dal to the targeted beneficiaries covered under PDS to all Ration cardholders (PHH and AAY) for fair distribution.
