CM kicks off Paonam Brojen's poll campaign
Give us 10 years of BJP rule, Biren woos voters

Thoubal, September 09 2020: Taking the fight to the Congress and pulling no punches, Chief Minister N Biren today said that six Congress MLAs had resigned for the greater good of the people and to bring about a stable BJP Government.

He was speaking at the by-election campaign for BJP candidate Paonam Brojen at Wangjing-Tentha Assembly Constituency when he made the statement.

It may be noted that by-elections to 13 vacant seats of the State Legislative Assembly are likely to be held in November amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Election Commission, however, is yet to decide on the poll dates and COVID-19 SOPs to be followed during voting.

Kicking off the campaign for ex-MLA P Brojen, N Biren appreciated and lauded the Congress MLAs who resigned recently for their "sacrifices" .

"To save the Government, they sacrificed and resigned as MLAs.

They sacrificed for the sake of the people.

There is no sacrifice greater than this," said the Chief Minister also appreciating people for their trust and appealing all to re-elect the ex-MLAs for a more stronger and stable Government.

To bring development, there must be a strong and stable Government.

The present Government is a coalition of BJP, NPP, NPF, Trinamool Congress, LJP and Independent.

Difference of opinions and principles at times threatened the Government.

The Congress MLAs had resigned to save the Government sacrificing their posts.

Such courage is rare, said N Biren.

The Chief Minister particularly mentioned ex-MLA Okram Henry and appreciated his role in electing Leishemba Sanajaoba as a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha.

Stating he is against groupism, N Biren said his Government's objective is to eradicate poverty and hunger.

He mentioned schemes the Centre and State Government have launched for the poor and stated that the CMHT (Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang) is covering treatment worth Rs 2 lakh to people below poverty line.

In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ayushman Bharat is covering treatment worth Rs 5 lakh for the poor.

All these schemes aim at eradicating poverty and elevating the living standard of the people.

To achieve these objectives, people should strengthen BJP, he said.

Highlighting the achievements of the BJP-led Government, N Biren further stated that the Inner Line Permit System is in place and the land of the State has been saved.

There was little hope for implementation of the ILPS in Manipur before (his Government), but after Central BJP leaders were sensitised on the issues the State was facing, the system was implemented to save the land and her people.

BJP is a party which loves and takes the people of the State very seriously, he said.

The days of divide and rule are over and as the BJP-led Government came to power there has been no bandh and blockade.

Law and order has improved significantly and police-public relation has improved.

Just yesterday, as many as 20,800 senior citizens who were left out of the old age pension scheme by the previous Government have been provided pension.

They were identified during the Go to Village Mission held at villages across the State, he said.

With the aim to make the State self reliant, many minor irrigation projects have been inaugurated to aid farmers in their agricultural activities.

These irrigation projects will ensure year-round water for irrigation purposes to the farmers, he added.

To solve unemployment and encourage entrepreneurs, N Biren said the Government will soon invite applications for Start-up Scheme.

Those selected will get loans to help their venture grow.

About 800 vendors of Ima Keithel have been provided loans recently and about 1200 will receive the same in the next few days.

People should not let the previous Government marred by controversy of alleged fake encounters return.

In this short period of three and a half years, the BJP-led Government has achieved tremendous feats.

The previous Government had not built a single market for the minority Muslim community at Lilong.

However, the present Government has started building one Ima Keithel and is near completion.

Such Ima Keithels have also been constructed at hill districts, he added.

"To bring about a stable Government, there is a need to form a BJP only Government.

As there is a stable Modi led BJP Government in the Centre, it is able to perform effectively.

The Centre has repealed Article 370 from Kashmir and is building Ram Mandir.

Please give 10 years of BJP only Government in Manipur and let us see the changes," N Biren said.

In three years, the Government has improved connectivity in the State.

Jiribam now has three bridges over Barak, Makru and Irang.

Appealing people of Wangjing-Tentha to think of him as their representative in absence of their MLA, N Biren said construction of a market at Khongjom will begin soon.

The IVR (Inter Village Road) from Khongjom to Tekcham will be renovated.

If needed, the road may be expanded, he said adding steps will be taken up to improve Khongjom river.

As there are no COVID-19 cases at Wangjing-Tentha, he lauded the people for their awareness on the pandemic.

Ex-MLA Okram Henry who was also present during the campaign, stated he resigned as there were differences between him and those in the Congress.

He joined BJP to lend support to a leader who will do more good for the public and appreciated Chief Minister N Biren Singh for his 'simplicity'.

He said he was "overwhelmed and conquered" by the works of the Chief Minister and decided to support the Government.

He appealed to people to vote for BJP candidates in the by-elections and help form a stable BJP Government.

Ex-MLA Paonam Brojen also appealed for people's support and said he resigned as MLA to do more good for people by joining BJP.

State Planning Board Chairman and Lamsang AC MLA S Rajen, Keirao AC MLA L Rameshwor, Konthoujam AC MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan and BJP Thoubal district leaders and workers attended the campaign.
