Myanmar authority bars entry of Indian vehicles

It has been reported that vehicles from India were not allowed to enter Tamu town by the officials of Myanmar Government since May 4 this year while vehicles from Myanmar were allowed to free pass the Indian side without any restrictions even though the Government of India took major initiative to strengthen bilateral relationship with Myanmar by setting up Indo-Myanmar Friendship which entailed free flow of traffic along the border area between the two countries to enhance business activities and to provide hassle free transportation, said a report of our correspondent.
Earlier, only Rs 10 was charged as immigration pass fee for Indian citizens to enter Myanmar but now the fee has been increased to Rs 20 by the immigration officials while Myanmarese citizens were allowed to enter Indian territory at free of cost on their two wheelers and sometimes they used large vehicles to transport their products without any intervention at the border gate, added the report.
Interestingly, no official communication has been intimated to Indian Government regarding the restrictions imposed on the Indian vehicle by the Myanmar Government, informed the report.
LS Seikhojang Baite, general secretary Kuki Chief Association Tengnoupal district expressed that the issue has been floated number of times before the officials that has conducted Meeyamgi Numit every month at Tengnoupal and Moreh but none of their pleas has been translated into action till date.
While urging the State Government as well as the Central Government to look into the matter at the earliest, he informed that Myanmarese citizens enjoyed full liberty to carry out their daily business activities to earn their livelihood on the Indian territory.
He also added that some time back Moreh police resorted to sent back the Myanmarese citizens who overstayed on Indian side in executing their business activities in Moreh, but now that has also been discontinued by the police personnel.
