Imphal, August 03 2014:
In tandem with an agreement reached earlier, a delegation of Manipur Government will be meeting their Myanmarese counterparts at Tamu tomorrow to discuss supply of power to Myanmar from Manipur as well as setting up of a thermal power plant under Government of India at Tamu.
Sources said the delegation of the Manipur government will be headed by Commerce & Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam and he will be assisted by Chief Engineer of Power and other officials of Commerce & Industries Department.
The delegation would also include five investors from the State.
The five investors are from the company, 'Seityam' based in Senapati district which engages in vulcanizing steel.
The company is to take up the task of setting up the thermal power plant at Tamu.
On the other hand, the Myanmar authority will be led by Yu Khin Ong Sui, Union Minister of Electric Power.
He has already reached Tamu today.
During the meeting, there will be talks on supplying of 23 megawatts of power to Tamu from the State for which the Myanmar authority had requested earlier in view of acute shortage of power in Tamu region, the sources said.
The State Government had already given approval to the request of the Myanmarese authority.
However, approval of the Central Government is still required for supplying the power as the matter of sharing of power between the State and the neighboring country is not included in the State Concurrent List.
Chief Minister O Ibobi had requested the Ministry concerned to give approval but the clearance is still awaited.
Earlier in a meeting held between the two neighbouring countries, both the sides agreed on supplying 23 megawatts of power to Myanmar, setting up of a thermal power plant at Tamu under Government of India and transmission of power generated from the plant to Moreh.
During the said meeting, it was also decided that raw materials required for setting up of the proposed thermal plant will be provided by Myanmar authority.
For this, plan for collection of coal from Kalimio has been already completed, the sources added.
