Reiterating its stand against the proposed acquisition of 3000 acres of tribal land at Haolenphai for setting up a smart city, the Thadou Students' Association (TSA), general headquarters has warned that it would launch a series of agitation if the State Govt does not stop the land acquisition process for the proposed smart city at Haolenphai.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club today, president of TSA (Ghqs) Lamminlun Singsit said that the Central Govt is to finalise the construction of 100 smart cities in the country including Haolenphai village in Chandel district in Nov this year.
In line with this move, the State Govt has initiated process to acquire 3000 acres of land at Haolenphai.
Registering stiff opposition to the move of acquiring vast tract of land at Haolenphai, Lamminlun urged both the Centre and State Govts to facilitate implementation of 6th Schedule in tribal areas of the State instead.
Saying that the tribals would be more safe and secure under the 6th Schedule provision of the Constitution, the TSA president urged the Govt to preserve traditional land laws.
Under the 6th Schedule no one else can touch the land of the tribals.
The schedule will also grant a degree of autonomy to the hill areas.
He warned of launching various forms of agitation if the Govt does not stop the process for acquisition of tribal land for construction of a smart city.
The TSA has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.
The Thadou students' body also forwarded the memo to the PM, Governor, Union Ministers concerned and State unit BJP chief Th Chaoba.
