Imphal, May 11 2020:
The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has appealed the State Government to conduct proper medical test for coronavirus for people coming in from different States.
The efforts of the State Government to bring back Manipuris stranded in different parts of the country and also setting up quarantine centres and taking various precautionary measures is appreciated, the press release by ZYF stated.
However, with the surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases, the youth front is apprehensive as some of these people are coming from the 'red zone' area.
Mere temperature screening is not enough, it said and has therefore appealed to the Government to conduct awareness programmes by medical professionals and sensitize the people especially those living along NH 37 since Jiribam has been selected as the pick-up point for people coming in from different States.
Further, strong instructions should be given to drivers and officials assigned at Jiribam to evacuate the stranded people to strictly instruct these people to maintain proper discipline prior to departure from Jiribam so that midway stoppage in populated and village areas and loitering around, creating unnecessary situation can be avoided, it added.
Considering the seriousness of the pandemic, the Zeliangrong Youth Front also appealed to the State Government to form a "swift action medical team" consisting of experts to monitor and oversee the overall situation at the quarantine centres located within Tamenglong and Noney districts with strict regulation to be followed so that timely medical intervention can be carried out for the safety of all section of societies for which Zeliangrong Youth Front will extend maximum cooperation and support to the Government towards the cause, it stated.
